A pest control team had to be called out to the Rosebank Primary School in Nairn. On the first day hot meals had to be eaten in classes rooms and sandwiches served the next as canteen had been closed due to the tiny invaders. Ian Street of Carrbridge- based firm Infinity Pest Solutions, which covers the north says infestations of the common black ants are commonly dealt with in the Summer. The ants are attracted to sweet substances, food and drink spillages should be cleaned away as soon as possible and food stored in airtight containers. After any attractants have been cleared away Mr Street says he normally puts down a gel-based formulation safely in affected areas, which the ant workers take back to the nest for the queen to feed from and then themselves which in turn eradicates the whole nest.
